Green Smoothie is Energy + Superfood

Two glasses of green smoothie.

Drink this for a surprisingly great-tasting boost in the morning (or anytime). You won’t crash, and your body will thank you for the incredible nutritional components that you have given it:

Banana-Pear Green Smoothie

  • 1 pear
Health Benefits: “…lower cholesterol, promote cardiovascular health, weight gain, and prevent constipation.” (Source)
  • 1 ripe banana
Health Benefits: “…weight gain as well as weight loss, [helps prevent or alleviate] constipation, bowel problems, anemia, blood pressure, heart problems, ulcers, brain stimulation, depression, nervous disorders, stress, morning sickness, menstruation, etc.” (Source)
  • 2 kale leaves
Health Benefits: helps fight cancer, heart disease, chronic diseases; protects eyes from UV rays, improves bone health, boosts immune system. (Source)
  • small handful of spinach leaves
Health Benefits: helps fight cancer, heart disease, chronic diseases, boosts immune system. (Source)
  • 1-2 tbsp honey to taste
Health Benefits: less calories than sugar, less likely to spike blood sugar than table sugar, antioxidants. (Source)
  • pinch of cayenne pepper
Health Benefits: improves circulation and blood flow, improves digestion, boosts immune system, antioxidant, relieves headaches. (Source)
  • one glass (~6-8 oz.) of cold filtered or spring water
Health Benefits: You are 55-75% water. You could almost say you are a water being. If that isn’t proof that water is a benefit, I don’t know what is.

Add the water, fruit, and honey into a blender and blend on low for about 10 seconds. Add kale and spinach and blend about 10 more seconds on low. Blend on high for about 30 seconds or until smooth. Keep unused smoothie in the refrigerator (in a container with a lid or sealed with plastic wrap) for no more than 24 hours. (It’s better fresh!)

Enjoy this delicious, all-natural, sustained lift in mood and energy! More recipes can easily be found through an online search.

  1. In this sudden cold weather, I wanted to introduce you to ginger root. Fresh ginger root tastes great in most green smoothies; namely kale, collards, spinach and dandelion, and is especially nice with apple. It adds warmth to your smoothie and strengthens the immune system. Feels good on a sore throat too. Cut off anywhere from half an inch to an inch of the fresh root, slice off the dry peel and chop into bits small enough for your blender to handle. Blend with the other ingredients of your smoothie.
